Abu Dhabi Police sets new speed limit on key road
Abu Dhabi Police is set to introduce a new traffic regulation that could surprise drivers who tend to slow down on the road.
From 01st May, motorists travelling in both directions on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road will be required to maintain a minimum speed of 120 kilometers per hour (kph). The new speed limit aims to improve road safety and prevent accidents, and drivers caught below the limit will be fined AED 400.
The introduction of the minimum speed limit is part of Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts to make the emirate’s roads safer, particularly with its rapidly growing population and increasing number of vehicles.
According to research by Injury Prevention, a peer-reviewed publication by the British Medical Journal, the UAE has significantly reduced road deaths from 10 per 100,000 people in 2010 to 7.4 in 2015 and 3.5 in 2019, thanks to the measures introduced by the government.
As the authorities continue to boost security and safety on the roads, residents and visitors alike can look forward to more pleasant and enjoyable road trips across Abu Dhabi and beyond.
However, it is essential for drivers to follow the new minimum speed limit to avoid hefty fines and ensure safe travel for everyone.
