With the issuance of Decision No. (4) of 2023 by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAD, it is now mandatory to obtain a permit for recreational fishing and organizing marine fishing competitions in the emirate’s waters. This decision aims to support recreational fishing activities and promote marine fishing sports.

Recreational Fishing Permit:
Any individual or pleasure boat user interested in recreational fishing must obtain a permit from the EAD. The permit covers various fishing methods, including line and hooks, spear guns during free diving, or any other methods specified by the EAD. Applicants must be 18 years or older, although minors can accompany an adult with a valid recreational fishing license.
How to Apply:
To obtain an annual or weekly recreational fishing license, applicants must submit a license request application through the “Tamm” government services portal. The application should be accompanied by the necessary documents and provide details on the proposed location, date, and time of the fishing activity.
Fishing Competitions:
Organizers of marine fishing competitions must also apply for a permit from the EAD. The application should include information about the competition, such as the targeted species, fishing tools, and gears to be used, as well as the number of participants. Organizers are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the event, following guidelines set by the EAD.
Regulations and Compliance:
License holders must adhere to the terms and conditions specified by the EAD, including restrictions on the number of people, fishing sites, and types of fish allowed to be caught. Spear-fishers must display the internationally recognized diving flag while fishing. After the fishing trip, a report detailing the species and quantities of caught fish must be submitted to the EAD.
Prohibited Activities:
Certain species and activities are strictly prohibited. These include fishing smaller sizes of fish below the minimum length allowed.
Damaging or trading marine life, such as corals, sea turtles, sharks, and whales, is strictly prohibited.
