Situated 42km off the Abu Dhabi coast, this museum was once the residence of the renowned pearl merchant, Mohammed bin Jassim Al Muraikhi. Inside, delve into the captivating history of the house, the intricacies of the pearl trade, and the everyday life on the island over a century ago, all presented through a remarkable collection of objects.
The Delma Museum also boasts a majlis, several date presses, and a traditional badkesh or windcatcher, designed to cool down the majlis.
His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, emphasizes the cultural significance, stating, “Conserving and reopening Delma Museum is an important milestone in our cultural strategy for the emirate and part of our mission at DCT Abu Dhabi to preserve our cultural and historical heritage, fostering pride in our national identity and sharing Abu Dhabi’s story with the world.”
For those eager to explore this historical gem, the journey begins with a water ferry ride from Al Dhana. The two-hour voyage, with departures at 7 am and 1 pm, unfolds the captivating tales of Delma Island’s rich history. Return trips from Delma Island commence at 10 am and 4 pm.
Tickets are affordably priced at AED 20 for adults, and children under 12 can explore for free. If you wish to bring your car along, the ferry offers this convenience for an additional AED 100.
