Abu Dhabi’s ambitious Saadiyat Cultural District has reached a significant milestone, with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) confirming that construction is now 76 percent complete.

The long-awaited project, first proposed in 2006, is scheduled for full completion by 2025.

The cultural district, envisioned as a global destination, will house several world-class institutions, including the Zayed National Museum, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the Natural History Museum. These additions will join the already operational Louvre Abu Dhabi, which has welcomed over 5 million visitors since its opening in 2017.

The development of Saadiyat Cultural District is deeply rooted in the UAE’s commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing a forward-looking vision. The project pays homage to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country’s founding father, who laid the groundwork for the nation’s cultural agenda through initiatives like the Al Ain Museum and the Cultural Foundation.

Today, this legacy continues under the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who oversee the realization of Sheikh Zayed’s vision for a thriving cultural landscape in the UAE.

Once completed, the district is set to become a global hub for artistic expression and cultural exchange. The Zayed National Museum will celebrate the nation’s rich history, while teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will offer an immersive experiential art space spanning 17,000 square meters.

The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi will take visitors on a journey through the universe’s 13.8-billion-year history, and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will showcase contemporary art and cultural achievements.

Despite the project’s scale and extended timeline, the Saadiyat Cultural District remains a testament to Abu Dhabi’s commitment to fostering cultural understanding and promoting artistic expression on a global stage.

As construction progresses, anticipation builds for the district’s grand opening, which promises to solidify the emirate’s position as a world-class cultural destination.
