The capital as taken a bold step towards sustainable public transport with the launch of its brand-new Green Bus service in Abu Dhabi, powered by clean hydrogen and electric energy. This eco-friendly fleet is now operating on Route 65, connecting Marina Mall to Shams Boutik on Al Reem Island. As part of the Abu Dhabi Mobility Green Bus Programme, this initiative is a significant milestone in the city’s mission to transform Abu Dhabi Island into a green transport zone by 2030.

These zero-emission green buses offer clean, quiet travel throughout the city, aiming to eliminate over 100,000 metric tonnes of CO2 annually as diesel buses are gradually phased out. This initiative reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to embracing the latest sustainable technologies, choosing the most efficient energy solutions for residents, commuters, and visitors alike.

Launched in November 2023, the Green Bus Service in Abu Dhabi Programme will run through June 2025, during which all new buses will undergo extensive testing and training. Drivers and technicians are being fully certified to ensure smooth operation and maintenance.

This project supports Abu Dhabi’s carbon reduction goals and strengthens the UAE’s commitment to the Paris Agreement, with the ultimate target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. As local support and maintenance facilities are established, these buses will play a crucial role in shaping the future of sustainable transport in Abu Dhabi.
