Greek musician Yanni will paint the town red as he performs in Abu Dhabi on 14th February at du Forum in Yas Island.
The one-day special Valentine’s Day show will see the 64-year-old musician and multi-instrumentalist serenade the crowd with materials from his vast catalogue.
In preparation for this great musical event, we compiled a few interesting facts about Yanni to help us understand the man better.
- Yanni’s real name is Yiannis Chryssomallis.
- He was born on 14th November 1954 in Kalamata, Greece.
- His musical talent was evident even early on, learning how to play the piano at the tender age of six.
- Yanni moved from Greece to America in 1972 to study at the University of Minnesota. He divided his time by studying and working as a dishwasher to earn a living. He earned his psychology degree in 1976.
- After his stint with the rock band Chameleon, Yanni decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in producing soundtrack for films.
- Some of the movies that Yanni helped provide music to were Steal the Sky, Heart of Midnight, When You Remember Me and Children of the Bride.
- Yanni’s first record, Optimystique, was released in 1980.
- The 1992 album, Dare to Dream, earned Yanni his first Grammy nomination.
- Yanni has a knack for performing in venues with great historical significance like the Herodes Atticus Theatre at the Acropolis of Athens in Greece, the Taj Mahal in India and the Forbidden City palace complex in Beijing, China and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE.
- To date, Yanni has released 16 studio albums and five live records.
