Back in the day before text and instant messaging platforms, people express themselves non-verbally through letter writing.
It’s an art form that is sadly overshadowed in today’s digital age.
Now a contest organised by Universal Postal Union (UPU) – a United Nations body that oversees the world’s post – and fully endorsed by Emirates Post is encouraging schoolchildren to rediscover the beauty of letter writing by joining its annual competition.
The UPU International Letter Writing Competition invites youngsters between 10 to 15 years old to write letters around the theme, ‘Write a letter to your hero.’
Ten letters will be chosen in the UAE and the winners will receive their prizes on World Post Day on 9th October. One overall winner will also be chosen to represent the UAE at the international round of the competition.
Participants can send their 500 to 1,000 words letter by mail to the Emirates Post P.O Box 99388 before 30th March 2019. For further information and to know the terms and conditions contact 04 2303286 or visit www.epg.gov.ae
