Bellissimo! Catch Italian Films At This Inaugural Film Festival

The inaugural Italian Film Week in the Emirates or IFWE 2019 is a ten-day programme running from 3rd to 13th April across Dubai and Abu Dhabi


Abu Dhabi will soon be home to the Italian Cultural Institute.

The organisation will be under the wing of the Embassy of Italy and will oversee the holding of Italian arts, language and cultural programmes to further strengthen the country’s relationship with the UAE.

But while waiting for the centre’s opening, we can keep ourselves busy by watching a few Italian films screening in the coming days.

The inaugural Italian Film Week in the Emirates or IFWE 2019 is a ten-day programme running from 3rd to 13th April across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and will showcase movies never distributed in the UAE before.

The capital will be hosting two screenings at Manarat Al Saadiyat – here’s a sneak peek…

Set during the second Punic War, Cabiria tells the story of a girl who is separated from her parents and her journey through the world of Ancient Rome.

From there she sees the eruption of Mt. Etna, views the barbaric splendour of Cathage and see human sacrifice and Hannibal crossing the Alps. The silent film will be accompanied by live piano Stefano Maccagno. Free. 6th April. From 7pm.

The final defeat of Carthage by the Romans crowns the birth of love between Axilla and Cabiria. Italian Race (Veloce Come IL Vento) is a sports action-drama film directed by Matteo Rovere (Drifters and The First King).

The story is loosely based on the life of rally racing driver Carlo Capone and follows the tale of a young lady who seeks the guidance of her drug-addicted brother following the death of their father. Free. 8th April. From 7.30pm.
