Morocco’s rich heritage is thrust back into the spotlight as a cultural event opens today until the 30th April at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
The Morocco in Abu Dhabi 2019 once again showcases everything what the ‘Western Kingdom’ has to offer – from arts, fashion, cuisine and music.
For 14 days, visitors will be enthralled with colourful Moroccan traditions starting from the venue’s aesthetics featuring facades decorated with carved wood, copper and glaze.
Just some of the things worth seeing include the crafts reflecting Islamic style such as brasseward, embroidery, Tazwaqt engravings on wood sculpture, pottery and Henna tattoo.
Fashion lovers will love the craftsmanship in the designs featuring an amalgam of colours with strict attention to details. As bonus, a special fashion show will be staged to highlight local style.
As for food fans, selected chefs will host daily cooking shows to share kitchen traditions from the preparation to cooking to presentation.
Debuting this year, and serving as one of this year’s highlights, is the Heritage Museum featuring displays and objects reflecting Morocco’s history from various periods.
Meanwhile, the Lala Mannana’s Daughters play will see heroines taking spectators in a marvellous journey to the enchanting northern area in Morocco highlighted by dancing and singing.
Moving outside ADNEC, a two-day concert on 18th and 19th April at Al Bahar on the Corniche will parade a group of Moroccan singers performing a selection of popular songs accompanied by a group of traditional local performers. Taking on the stage are Saida Charaf, Abdelhafid Douzi, Oulad El Bouazzaoui Band, Abderrahim Souiri, Zina Daoudia, Lamia Zaidi, Abdelali Anouar, Hayat Boukhriss and Mohamed Alarousi.
