Cultural events and workshops will be hosted at the Al Qattara Arts Centre and Qasr Al Muwaiji for the month of September.
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) through the Al Ain Cultural Programme will stage the community events to promote local heritage.
And they’re absolutely free!
Al Qattara Arts Centre will host several events, including The Microphone Programme designed to encourage conversation within the audience.
On Thursday, 12th September, a session titled ‘Your Inner Giant’ will feature life skills coach Shaima Al Jaberi talking about the importance of having a life purpose.
The centre will host the ‘Family Day’ event on 14th September. Here, visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities like interactive workshops, pottery and oud playing tutorials.
The ‘Journey of an Object’ will explore the importance of museums in preserving a country’s cultural heritage.
What’s more the programme will display a clay jug, on loan until 31st October from Al Ain Museum, from the settlement of Bidaa Bint Saud, dating back to the Iron Age, and specifically to the first millennium BCE.
Meanwhile, Qasr Al Muwaiji will host a series of cultural workshops including the ‘Royal Bisht’ workshop on 17th September to highlight Bisht or the prestigious garment traditionally associated with the Gulf.
In addition, several Royal Bishts that belonged to Al Nahyan family will be on display at Qasr Al Muwaiji.
‘Characters from the 20th Century’ event will take place on 28th September, allowing visitors the opportunity to interact with silent art presentations that emulate lifestyles in the early twentieth century.
‘A Lens on History’ on 14th September will include several photography workshops with several award-winning experts. This event puts the spotlight on the big role of photography in preserving the UAE’s culture and traditions.
All workshops are free of charge and open to the public.
