Opening in February on Saadiyat Island is Berklee Abu Dhabi and will carry a handful of courses, workshops, masterclasses and performances – all related to the art of making music.
The UAE is home to many talented artists. This includes aspiring musicians who are looking to further hone their craft in the highest level.
Fortunately, the capital will soon be home to a world-renowned institute known for cultivating music talents on and off the stage.
The sprawling facility will feature rehearsal and recording studios, a performance space, ensemble rooms, office space and a tech lab.
The opening of school’s Abu Dhabi branch was made possible after an agreement between the Berklee College of Music and Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.
A $5 million or AED 18.4 million scholarship fund will also be offered for students to take on degrees in Boston, New York, Valencia or on Berklee Online, attend a summer programme in Boston or Valencia or attend a programme in Abu Dhabi.
Students in the Berklee Abu Dhabi campus can choose from the many courses including Songwriting, Music Production, Turntablism, Contemporary String Techniques, DJing, Recording and Mixing, Music Business, Creative Entrepreneurship and the Music of the Middle East.
Providing guidance to students are accomplished personalities in the music industry including Emmy-winning composer Stephen Webber and Los Angeles-based artist and Grammy-winning composer and producer Rich Jacques.
Serving as the school’s artistic director is Grammy-nominated, Lebanese American singer-songwriter Mayssa Karaa.
Grammy-winning engineer Gael Hedding, will assume director duties.
Berklee College of Music is a private music institute based in Boston, Massachusetts.
