The Department of Municipalities & Transport has announced on the Abu Dhabi Road Toll system to go live from 02nd January 2021.
All drivers in Abu Dhabi and visiting the emirate must register before the launch of the Abu Dhabi Road Toll system which would go live on 02nd January 2021. They can register for the darb system by visiting www.itc.gov.ae ahead of the launch. Last year October this scheme was expected to start working. But with the sudden outbreak of the pandemic, the project was put on hold to reduce further tensions. The toll gates are constructed in Sheikh Khalifa, Sheik Zayed, Al Maqta and Musaffah bridges.
The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi announced in March that the road charging system would be postponed because of the outbreak of the pandemic and the extreme financial pressures the motorists face due to the outbreak. The plan to set up toll gates is to reduce the flow of traffic during peak time.
Integrated Transport Center ( ITC ), part of the Abu Dhabi Department of municipalities and transport has said that every a motorist has to register with them and pay 100 Dirhams. 50 Dirhams will be credited to the motorist’s account and will be charged 4 dirhams for crossing the toll during peak traffic hours. The peak traffic hours are between 7 AM to 9 AM and in the evenings it is between 5 PM to 7 PM.
The following categories will be exempt from the toll:
- The senior Emiratis.
- Retired Emiratis.
- The people of determination.
- Limited income Emiratis.
In addition to this category, the following vehicles will also be exempt from tolls:
- Ambulances.
- Authorised school buses
- Armed force and civil defense vehicles those have a proper number plate and emblem.
- Public buses and taxis registered in Abu Dhabi.
- Police vehicles and motorcycles.
- Passenger buses with a capacity of seating 26 persons and more.
