Covid-19 update: UAE extends India flight ban

Covid-19
UAE suspends Indian flights until 14th May

Flights from India to the UAE have been further suspended for another 10 days. This is due to the alarming surge of cases in the second wave of Covid-19 in India.

Initially flights were stopped from 24th April at 11.59 pm for 10 days. This was as per the announcement by UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority ( NCEMA) and The General Civil Aviation Authority ( GCAA ).

However, this has now been extended until Friday 14th May and includes both national and international carriers with the surge in Covid-19 cases. Transit flights heading to India via UAE exclude the ban and cargo flights between UAE and India will continue as normal.

UAE nationals, diplomatic missions between the two countries, official delegations, business planes, and golden residency holders are excluded from the temporary suspension. Anyone affected by the travel suspension should contact their respective airline.

A statement on Emirates’ website states “Emirates has suspended passengers flights from India effective 24th April 2021 until 14th May 2021. Furthermore, passengers who have transited through India in the last 14 days will not be accepted to travel from any other point to the UAE.”

India has banned regular, scheduled international flights into and out of India until midnight on 31st May.

Emirates has issued a statement, you can keep your ticket for a future flight or rebook on another date. For more information visit www.emirates.com

“Flights for evacuating overseas Indians will continue. Unless suspended by other countries temporary flying arrangements between specific countries, known as “air bubbles” will also continue,” reads a statement on UAE news agency WAM.

Our thoughts and prayers are with friends and families in India during these unprecedented times.
