Abu Dhabi has been named the most liveable city in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2024.The UAE capital improved its global ranking to 76th place, with a score of 81.7 out of 100, positioning it ahead of Dubai, which ranked 78th globally. The EIU’s index assesses the liveability of cities based on over 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across categories such as stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Abu Dhabi’s top ranking in the MENA region reflects significant improvements in these areas, particularly in health care and education.“This year, Dubai has joined Abu Dhabi in achieving the highest tier of liveability in our index. Both cities score highly on stability, infrastructure, and education,” said Barsali Bhattacharyya, deputy industry director at EIU.She also mentioned the UAE’s increased public healthcare spending as a contributing factor to improving general population health and reducing the need for outbound medical tourism.Abu Dhabi’s recognition in the EIU index follows its earlier accolade as the safest city in the world, and its reputation as one of the best cities to visit at night, underscoring its growing international stature.
