Abu Dhabi’s Global Sports Ambition Soars
Abu Dhabi’s relentless pursuit of establishing itself as a global sporting destination shows no signs of slowing down. With a dynamic lineup of diverse events like MMA and Judo championships, the emirate is solidifying its reputation on the international sports scene.
Adding another feather to its cap, Abu Dhabi has triumphed in the bid to host two highly anticipated UCI world championships. The emirate is gearing up to welcome the 2028 cycling Road World Championships and the 2029 Track World Championships, further cementing its position as a hub for premier sporting spectacles.
This exciting announcement marks a significant achievement for Abu Dhabi, as it becomes the host city for the UCI Road World Championships for the second time. The event was previously held in the Middle East during the 2016 edition in Doha, Qatar. As per the UCI’s recent statement, a total of 14 events, spanning four continents and involving eight countries, have been awarded hosting rights through 2029.
The upcoming UCI world championships are set to captivate cycling enthusiasts, with the 2024 road championships slated for Zurich, Switzerland, and the 2025 edition marking Africa’s debut as a host, taking place in Rwanda. Subsequent editions will find their homes in Canada and France, showcasing the global nature of this prestigious event.
