Abu Dhabi has been named the 2025 Global Host for International Jazz Day, a prestigious designation that will see the emirate showcase its thriving jazz scene on the world stage.

As a UNESCO Creative City of Music renowned for its blend of Arabian traditions with global sounds, Abu Dhabi is the fitting location to foster cross-cultural exchange through jazz.

On April 30, 2025, fans can expect unique performances merging oud, qanoon and ney with jazz rhythms. Local artists will collaborate with international greats to introduce new audiences to Arabic jazz.

Beyond concerts, Abu Dhabi’s celebrations will include educational workshops for students led by institutions like Berklee Abu Dhabi and NYU Abu Dhabi. Community outreach aims to pass the torch to the next generation of musicians.

Since its founding in 2011, International Jazz Day has brought over 2 billion people together through shared musical passions. As host, Abu Dhabi continues UNESCO’s mission of using jazz to promote freedom and diversity.

UNESCO head Audrey Azoulay and Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock hailed the choice, saying Abu Dhabi’s cosmopolitan spirit embodies jazz’s power to unite. DCT Abu Dhabi Chairman Mohamed Al Mubarak expressed pride that the emirate can amplify its thriving arts scene on the global stage.

Jazz enthusiasts have a milestone to look forward to in 2025 when Abu Dhabi’s vibrant yet tradition-steeped sound helps swing the world.
