The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has approved the use of electric scooters in public places.
Residents will soon be able to rent out e-scooters and use them on pedestrian and cycle paths on the Corniche and Khalifa Street.
Authorities will study the possibility of adding more designated areas for e-scooters after six to 12 months of trial.
Interested firms eyeing to rent out e-scooters must apply for a certificate and business licences before they’ll be allowed to operate.
The government hopes that these e-scooters would help ease traffic and encourages the public to use sustainable transport means.
Residents in the capital can rent e-scooters by Circ, a Berlin based micro-mobility provider at AED 1 per minute plus AED 3 for unlocking.
