A new attraction will soon rise in Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, giving the public more chance to appreciate the protected area’s natural landscape.

The ‘Flamingo Dreams’ is an observation tower designed by Australia-based architects Bryan Fan and Shelley Xu.

The proposed structure emerged as the winner of the Abu Dhabi Flamingo Observation Tower competition backed by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi and Bee Breeders and ARCHHIVE Books.

The competition saw architects from all around the world submit design ideas to further enhance the area and attract more visitors to the site.

If the project is pushed through, the observation tower will feature interesting, key designs like interiors that resemble a bird’s nest and palm-leaf shell openings for uninterrupted views of the birds without distracting them.

Al Wathba Wetland Reserve is known for its vast natural surroundings composed of fossilised sands and dunes and wetlands.

There are various plant and animal species residing in the area, and colourful flamingos in the thousands annually migrate here during winter season.
