Stargazers in the UAE are in for a treat this week as the full ‘Flower Moon’ will reach its peak on the evening of May 22nd until around 2am on May 23rd.

The ‘Flower Moon’ is the traditional name given to May’s full moon by Native Americans and early Colonial settlers. It coincides with the spring flower blooms in many regions.

For observers in the UAE, the exceptional brightness of the Flower Moon means it should be easily visible to the naked eye without need for telescopes or binoculars. However, those wishing to photograph the moon are advised to do so around moonrise for the best shots.

While the full moon will be bright across the UAE, stargazers in Abu Dhabi may soon have even better night sky viewing thanks to the emirate’s new Dark Sky policy aimed at reducing light pollution.

For the ultimate stargazing experience, enthusiasts can head outside the cities to dark sky locations like Al Qua’a Milky Way spot, Hatta, or Shuweihan Island where the stars truly shine.
