Wi-Fi in Abu Dhabi buses is finally about to become a reality.
Bringing the project to fruition is the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in partnership with the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du).
An initial ten buses in Abu Dhabi will be fitted with the technology along with the main bus station in the city and one air-conditioned bus shelter.
The plan is to eventually increase the number of buses with Wi-Fi to 520 as well as the stations and all bus shelters around the emirate by the first quarter of 2020.
At present, the service is available on these routes: Route 43, connecting major areas of Abu Dhabi from the Corniche Hospital to Al Mushrif Mall via Corniche Street, Electra Street, Qasr Al Hosn, Airport Road, Al Falah Street, Al Karama, Alwazarat bridge, Airport Road and Mushrif.
Route 41, connecting the Corniche Hospital to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center via Hamdan Street, Airport Road, the Pepsi Factory, and the Zayed Military Hospital.
Route A1, connecting the Abu Dhabi Airport City Terminal to Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Passengers only need to connect to Emirates Wifi by du to receive a text message with a passcode.
By entering the code, passengers will then be able to connect to the network to access the Internet.
This initiative according to the ITC will hopefully encourage more people to take public transport.
