Tourists and residents wanting to delve deep into Islamic history and traditions are the focus of a new campaign.
The ‘Mosques Tour Initiative’ is an initiative by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments along with various churches in the emirate.
Five participating mosques are included in the tour: Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed the First Mosque, Al Kareem Mosque in Al Marina, Al Aziz Mosque on Reem Island, the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan the Second Mosque in Al Khalidiyah, and the Mariam, Umm Eisa Mosque in Al Mushrif.
Tour participants will get to learn proper etiquette when visiting mosques and get an introductory overview of the religious and societal role of mosques.
They will also learn on what it takes to build and maintain mosques, as well the history surrounding them.
DCT Abu Dhabi aims to educate the public and share Islamic history and culture, mosque architecture, significance of the decorative art displayed in Islamic architecture when combined with traditional and contemporary art elements.
