Embracing Diversity: New Church Establishment in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is set to welcome a new church, adjacent to the BAPS Hindu temple, with a soft opening ceremony scheduled for Sunday. This significant milestone marks the inauguration of the Church of South India (CSI) Parish’s first facility in Abu Dhabi, located in Abu Mureikha. The establishment sits on a 4.37-acre land generously gifted by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Leading the inauguration ceremony on Sunday will be Rt. Rev. Dr. Malayil Sabu Koshy Cherian, the Bishop of Madhya Kerala Diocese of the CSI. Following the ceremony, a Thanksgiving meeting will be held. The church expressed gratitude for the unwavering support extended by the UAE leadership since its inception on 19th April, 1979.

With a membership of approximately 4 million, CSI ranks as India’s second-largest Christian church. Previously, services in Abu Dhabi were conducted at St. Andrew’s Church in the city. The introduction of the new church building will provide CSI followers in the capital with their own space for gathering and prayer.

Featuring a distinctive design, the earthy-toned and octagon-shaped church building boasts a front elevation reminiscent of angel wings, symbolizing the “protection of mankind and God’s creation,” as noted by the church.

Rev. Lalji M. Philip, Vicar of the Parish, expressed the church’s commitment to sharing the unconditional and sacrificial love of God, emphasizing that the place of worship will serve the community at all times.

Attendance at the Sunday ceremony will be limited to invitees with issued entry passes. However, an online live broadcast will be available for well-wishers and followers to participate in the dedication ceremony.

Regular services, open to all followers, will commence on 05th May.
