The UAE’s Council of Ministers has announced that the observance of Commemoration Day, formerly known as Martyr’s Day, will happen on 29th November, Thursday.
The occasion is originally commemorated on 30th November. But because the date falls on a Friday this year, authorities have decided to move it one day ahead.
To mark the occasion, UAE flags across government offices will be flown at half-mast at 8 am. A minute of silent prayer ensues at 11.30am, before raising the flags back during the singing of the national anthem.
Commemoration Day pays tribute to the country’s fallen soldiers and the sacrifices they made in the line of duty.
