The Capital Recognized In The Top 10 Smart Cities
Abu Dhabi has recently secured its place among the world’s top 10 smartest cities, a significant achievement reflecting the emirate’s relentless pursuit of digital transformation.
Climbing three spots from last year, Abu Dhabi now ranks 10th in the Smart City Index 2024 by Switzerland’s International Institute for Management Development (IMD). This index, encompassing 142 cities, also highlights Dubai’s progress, rising from 17th to 12th place.
Riyadh’s advancement by five places to 25th, along with Makkah and Jeddah’s positions at 52nd and 55th respectively, underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to smart city initiatives. Doha’s notable climb by 11 spots to 59th and Muscat’s position at 88th reflect the region’s growing emphasis on technological advancement.
The Smart City Index evaluates various aspects including economic and technological facets, quality of life, environmental sustainability, and inclusivity. It factors in resident perceptions of city infrastructure and technology accessibility, drawing from three years of survey data.
Abu Dhabi’s high rankings as smart cities in safety, culture, public transport, green spaces, and medical services underscore its commitment to resident well-being. Similarly, Dubai excels in safety, medical services, and public transport. These achievements reflect the UAE’s concerted efforts in leveraging technology to drive knowledge-based economies.
The collaboration between Abu Dhabi and Shenzhen, exemplified by the twin city agreement signed in February, further demonstrates the commitment to shared knowledge and collaboration in smart city endeavors. This partnership spans various areas including infrastructure, green mobility, advanced technology, and urban development, signaling a collective pursuit of sustainability and innovation.
