As the nation bids farewell to the extended Eid al-Adha break, which concluded on June 18th, residents of the United Arab Emirates are already looking ahead to the next long weekend on the horizon.

Earlier this year, the UAE Cabinet, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, announced the official calendar of holidays for 2024, allowing ample time for people to plan their activities and travel.

The upcoming significant long weekend is scheduled for early December, coinciding with the observance of Remembrance Day (formerly known as Martyrs’ Day) and National Day. Overall, this year will have a total of 14 days off for private and public sector employees.

According to the official UAE website, December 2nd and 3rd, 2024, have been declared as public holidays for both the public and private sectors.

Conveniently, these holidays fall on a Monday and Tuesday, respectively, creating the perfect opportunity for a four-day weekend when combined with the preceding Saturday and Sunday.

Remaining public holidays expected in the UAE for 2024

  • June 16: Arafat Day (subject to moon sighting)
  • June 17-19: Eid al-Adha (subject to moon sighting)
  • July 7: Islamic New Year
  • September 15: Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday
  • December 2-3: National Day

While the Eid al-Adha break has just concluded, the UAE’s thoughtful approach to scheduling public holidays not only honors the nation’s rich cultural heritage but also promotes work-life balance and allows residents to plan ahead for these special occasions.

As the country continues to thrive and prosper, its citizens and residents eagerly anticipate the upcoming long weekend in December, a time to celebrate national pride and create cherished memories with family and friends.
