Preserving Ecological Balance: Bird Conservation Efforts by Al Ain Zoo!
On 11th May, Al Ain Zoo celebrates World Migratory Bird Day, advocating for the preservation of these vital creatures. Recognizing their role in maintaining ecological balance, the Zoo emphasizes the importance of safeguarding their habitats.
Al Ain Zoo conducts monthly studies on wild bird movement, meticulously tracking their numbers, species diversity, and duration of stay. Notable findings reveal a consistent presence of migratory birds during the winter months, from October to March.
Since 2017, the Zoo has identified 117 bird species, with 54% classified as migratory. Species such as Snipes, eagles, Great herons, small herons, and dabbling ducks are among the prominent residents.
Various factors attract these birds, including safe reserves, shaded areas, well-maintained trees, and ponds. Notably, the Zoo refrains from using pesticides on plants, ensuring a healthier environment for avian inhabitants.
In line with its commitment to community education, the Zoo organizes bird-monitoring trips to raise awareness about migratory birds’ significance and promote environmental stewardship. Participation in cleaning campaigns and collaboration with environmental organizations further underscores the Zoo’s dedication to conservation efforts.
