Pioneering Ambulances for the Sea
In a groundbreaking collaboration with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), the Yas SeaWorld® Research & Rescue Center, located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, has proudly unveiled the UAE’s inaugural marine wildlife rescue ambulances.
This remarkable initiative is designed to facilitate prompt response and rescue operations for marine wildlife across the UAE, all under the vigilant supervision of EAD.
Encompassing an impressive 9,000 square meters, the Yas SeaWorld® Research & Rescue Center proudly stands as the region’s largest hub for research, rescue, rehabilitation, and the return of marine life.
Equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including a dedicated rescue clinic and a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, the center has now added two specialized marine wildlife rescue ambulances to its arsenal.
With a legacy spanning nearly 60 years in marine animal rescue, the Yas SeaWorld® Research & Rescue Center brings the extensive expertise of SeaWorld to the UAE and the broader region.
This firmly establishes its position within one of the world’s most extensive marine animal rescue networks, having undertaken over 40,000 rescues on a global scale. Significantly, the design of the ambulances prioritizes spaciousness, ensuring there are no constraints concerning the size of animals.
This enables the comfortable transport of large marine creatures, such as dolphins and dugongs, while minimizing the risk of injury.
To enhance adaptability further, the ambulances are equipped with specialized, animal-specific gear meticulously tailored to the unique demands of each rescue mission.
This equipment includes dolphin and dugong stretchers, water sprayers, pre-filled “Go bags” containing essential items like towels, tubes, funnels, hydration equipment, and gloves.
Moreover, the rescue teams are armed with emergency response kits equipped with stabilizing tools.
The Yas SeaWorld® Research & Rescue Center is home to a diverse and multinational team of marine scientists, veterinarians, animal care specialists, marine animal rescue experts, and educators.
These marine wildlife rescue ambulances are accessible 24/7 and are ready to respond promptly within the UAE. The center maintains a close-knit partnership with EAD, the Middle East’s most prominent environmental regulator.
